Timber fencing, pool and boundary fencing, retaining walls, garden landscaping and driveway work - built by a licensed builder, done to last, finished to suit the property. LBP licensed, based in Mangere East, building across Auckland for 24 years.
Paling, post-and-rail, and board-on-board fencing - posts set at the right depth for the soil, timber specified for ground contact where it goes in the ground. The face is what you see. The posts determine whether the fence is still standing in a decade.
Installed to NZ Standard 8500. Self-closing gate, correct height, no climbable elements within the required zones. Pool fencing that doesn't meet the standard gets the pool closed by Auckland Council - we don't cut corners on compliance.
Boundary runs alongside neighbours, along driveways, and at road boundaries. We assess the correct height, post specification, and setback for the run before quoting. Longer boundary runs are quoted as a complete scope - not priced per panel.
Timber sleeper retaining walls, concrete block, and stone. Drainage behind the wall built in from the start - the wall holds the ground; the drainage prevents hydrostatic pressure loading the wall over Auckland's wet winters.
Driveway and path work, garden landscaping, and outdoor ground preparation. Often scoped as part of the full outdoor programme where fencing, decking, and landscaping are completed under one contract.
Pool fencing in New Zealand is governed by the Building Act 2016 and NZ Standard 8500:2017 (Safety Barriers and Fences Around Swimming Pools, Spas, and Hot Tubs). The standard applies to any pool that holds more than 400 millimetres of water - including above-ground pools and spa pools at that depth.
Auckland Council inspects pool fences. Non-compliant fences result in a notice to fix, and the pool must be secured until brought to standard. We install pool fencing to NZ Standard 8500 and document the installation correctly.
The fence must be at least 1.2 metres high measured on the non-pool side. No horizontal rails or other climbable elements near the top of the fence on the pool side - anything a child could step on to get over the fence is non-compliant.
All gates must be self-closing and self-latching, opening away from the pool. A gate that can be propped open or latched back - even temporarily - is non-compliant regardless of how well the rest of the fence is built.
No furniture, structures, or objects within 1 metre inside the fence on the pool side, or within 0.5 metres outside. A planter, outdoor chair, or garden bed positioned close to the fence can be enough to fail an inspection.
Auckland Council inspects pool fences on a scheduled basis and in response to complaints. Fines apply for non-compliance. We document every pool fence installation to the standard so there are no surprises at inspection.
The face is what you see. The drainage is what keeps it standing.
Most retaining wall failures are drainage failures, not structural ones. Water saturates the soil behind the wall during Auckland's wet months. That saturated soil creates hydrostatic pressure against the wall face - and a well-built wall without drainage behind it is still carrying a load it wasn't designed for. Every retaining wall we build includes drainage consideration from the start: drainage aggregate or a drainage channel behind the wall. On Auckland's clay-heavy sites, this is what separates a wall that holds from one that needs replacing in five years.
Timber sleeper retaining walls are the most common for residential work up to around 1.0m to 1.5m. Concrete block suits deeper cuts and steeper sites where structural integrity under load matters more than aesthetics. Stone or gabion construction is available for the right site. We discuss material options at quote stage with the actual site conditions in mind - not a default preference.
Under Schedule 1 of the Building Act, retaining walls that retain no more than 1.5 metres of ground and don't carry a surcharge load are generally exempt from consent. Surcharge loads change the assessment - a driveway, a structure, or vehicle access above a 1.0m wall adds load the exemption thresholds don't account for. Proximity to boundaries can also change the picture. We confirm the consent question at quote stage before you commit to anything.
We visit the site, assess soil conditions, drainage, slope, and boundary alignment before quoting. For retaining walls, we look at the cut depth, what's above the wall, and whether drainage is required from the start. Pool fencing is assessed against NZ Standard 8500 at this stage. Fixed price with a clear scope document. Consent pathway confirmed before you commit.
Posts set first - correct depth for the soil type and fence height. Retaining wall drainage goes in before the wall face is built. Pool fencing and gate hardware installed in compliance sequence. Landscaping and path work follows once structural elements are completed. No shortcuts on sequence.
Gate hardware, capping, and any agreed finishing elements completed before handover. Full walkthrough. Consent documentation handled if applicable.
Fence type, post specification, site conditions, retaining wall drainage, and consent all vary too much for a number without context. What actually moves the quote:
